It was crucial to give team members visual and literal access to the outdoors. The temperate climate and dramatic views along the canyon rim in Los Alamos, NM give this Tech startup a perfect environment for healthy working. An out door amphitheater will allow for lectures and group meetups al fresco.
The existing "Smart House" will be outfitted with photovoltaics to power the Descartes Campus while the roof of the new addition will serve as a rain water harvester. Water will be directed to an underground cistern to be used in turn to water the landscaping. A permeable surface has been specified for the parking lot to allow for rain water penetration. The canyon rim bike trail will terminate at the future Descartes Campus and the design allows for the bike path the connect to the city center through the property in a beautifully landscaped plaza and promenade extending towards Ashley Pond.
The offices offer a variety of working environments. Everyone has a dedicated desk but has access to several "breakout" rooms such as small conference rooms, individual booths and spontaneous break out lounges with furnishings that can be arranged as required.
